History

Elizabeth City is located in Northeastern, North Carolina. The area  that is in a very rural part of the state has had a long history of supporting the performing arts and yet in 1992 there were no active community theater organizations.  A small group of thespians who wanted to perform and bring live theater back to the area banded together and created Encore Theater Company.

During the early years we schlepped our sets from venue to venue to perform. In 1995 we partnered with the Pasquotank Arts Council (now operating as Arts Of the Albemarle) and created a small black box theater located in the arts council called The Main Street Stage, which was our home for 13 years. In 2007 we moved our performances to the newly renovated Maguire Theater inside The Center operated by Arts Of the Albemarle in downtown Elizabeth City where we currently perform from October thru April.

In 2014 Encore Theatre Company finally realized its long held dream of a permanent home with the purchase of a building. We now have a place to rehearse, build sets, store costumes, props and equipment.
